Chicago Looks: Chicago Queen

Chicago Looks Add comments

Candace Jordan (candidcandace.com) was attending EXPO Chicago. She is an influential personality in the city’s fashion and social scenes.

How would you describe the Chicago style?
I would describe Chicago style as “practical chic.” Even though there are some Chicagoans pushing fashion boundaries, I think they’re in the minority here. I think the city is filled with women who don’t follow trends but rather, follow their own instincts. Not many extremists but simply lots of stylish women.

What’s your own style like?
I love simple, modern looks with a twist. I feel most comfortable in something understated but then I like to pump it up with an oversized accessory or a great pair of shoes or handbag. Accessories are the key for me.

What’s your approach to accessories? Where do you like to get yours?
As I mentioned, accessories are the key for me. I find them everywhere and never buy just for brand names but rather something that might catch my eye. I love the MCA Store, lots of cutting-edge jewelry designs that you don’t see anywhere else. I also love Beatnix, 3400 North Halsted, because they have great jewelry and fun accessories at reasonable prices. There is a great jewelry dealer at the Randolph Street Market too by the name of Ira Scheck. He has an incredible eye for dramatic pieces and I always seek him out when I go.

What’s your favorite trend this season?
I just love the modern shapes that are so architectural. I also love the peplum look but, sadly, it’s not for me. My waistline is non-existent. I guess my favorite trend is in the shoes. I am so tired of stilettos and love the thicker, chunkier high heel. There are some great ones by Chloe that I’m lusting for but I’m also not opposed to buying them at Nine West if the shape is the same.

Do you think fashion is art?
I think fashion CAN be art. How can you not look at an Alexander McQueen runway piece and not envision it on a marble pedestal?
